JOB DESCRIPTION:

Post-Primary Science Tutor – Carrickfergus
Are you passionate about science, chemistry, biology, physics and want to make a real impact on young learners? We’re looking for an experienced and engaging Post-Primary Science Tutor to join our dedicated team in Carrickfergus. If you’re confident in teaching biology, chemistry and/or physics based on the Northern Ireland post-primary curriculum, we’d love to hear from you!

Your Role:

  • Deliver in-person tutoring in science, chemistry, biology, and physics for Key Stage 3, GCSE, and/or A-Level students.
  • Create personalised learning plans to support individual student goals
  • Break down complex scientific concepts in ways that are easy to understand
  • Track student progress and adjust teaching strategies as needed
  • Maintain communication with parents and guardians on student performance

What We’re Looking For:Essential:

  • Degree in Science or a related subject
  • Minimum of 1 year’s experience teaching or tutoring post-primary science
  • Strong knowledge of the Northern Ireland Curriculum for post-primary levels
  • Ability to teach one or more science strands: biology, chemistry, physics
  • Excellent communication and lesson delivery skills
  • Reliable, patient, supportive, and confident working with teens
  • Passion for science and helping students achieve their academic potential

Preferred:

  • A teaching qualification (e.g. PGCE)
  • Experience with students who have additional learning needs

What to Expect:

  • A brief teaching demo will be part of the application process
  • Tutors should be willing to commit to the role for at least one year
  • All sessions will be in person
  • This is a self-employed role

Key Details:

  • Pay ranges from £20 to £30 per hour, depending on the level and type of lesson—whether one-to-one, group sessions, home visits, or sessions held at our Carrickfergus Hub. Further details will be discussed during the interview.
  • Expected hours: 4 – 25 hours per week
  • Schedule: Flexible – weekdays and weekends available
  • Requirements: UK bank account, right to work in Northern Ireland, and enhanced AccessNI check (or willingness to obtain one)
