Description

A. EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

  • Post-secondary education in Adult Education, Human Resources, Business Administration, Career Development, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 2 years’ experience in education services, counseling, or career development using a case management approach.
  • Experience working with individuals who face barriers to education and/or employment, including students with learning disabilities or accessibility needs; or a demonstrated willingness to learn how to support these students effectively.
  • Experience facilitating workshops or delivering presentations to diverse audiences.
  • Experience in financial oversight, including policy compliance, budget monitoring, payment processing, and reporting.

B. KNOWLEDGE & ATTRIBUTES

  • Familiarity with post-secondary admission processes, Canadian University/College systems, and national/provincial education funding programs.
  • Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office, Outlook/email, and database systems.
  • In-depth understanding of Walpole Island First Nation history, culture, goals, and the intergenerational effects of residential schools.
  • Knowledge of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission’s Calls to Action (especially those relating to education).
  • Ability to apply trauma-informed, culturally safe, and client-centered approaches.
  • Demonstrated discretion, professionalism, and commitment to confidentiality.
  • Awareness and respect for the importance of Anishinaabemowin (Ojibwe language) revitalization in educational contexts.
  • We may offer cultural competency and trauma-informed training and support to help employees better understand and address the ongoing impacts of colonialism in the workplace.

C. SKILLS

  • Excellent organizational, time management, and case coordination skills.
  • Strong communication skills (written, verbal, and presentation).
  • Ability to manage competing priorities and maintain accuracy under pressure.
  • Effective facilitation, problem-solving, conflict resolution, and advocacy abilities.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work collaboratively and respectfully with students, staff, institutions, and community partners.

D. ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Valid Ontario G Class Driver’s License and access to a reliable personal vehicle.
  • Satisfactory Criminal Records Check with Vulnerable Sector Search.
  • Standard First Aid and CPR (considered an asset).
  • Commitment to follow all Walpole Island First Nation human resources and operational policies, including confidentiality and respectful workplace expectations.
Responsibilities

As a core member of the Education Department, the PSEC provides a wide range of support to WIFN members navigating post-secondary education. This role balances administrative precision with compassionate, culturally responsive service delivery. The incumbent will coordinate funding processes, provide one-on-one guidance through case management, collaborate with internal and external partners, and promote access to education through community outreach.
