Description Job Title: Post Secondary Teacher Full-Time, 10 Month, Role Level 2 Reports To: Director of Workforce Development Supervisory Responsibilities: No Who We Are: YouthBuild Philadelphia Charter School is a tuition-free, public charter high school, with a singular focus on supporting youth aged 17-20 who have been pushed out of traditional schools. During our 1-year alternative program, Youthbuild facilitates a warm, loving culture that uses a variety of structures to build community, such as a restorative-justice approach to discipline, weekly community meetings, and school-wide service projects. Students are empowered to attain their high school diploma and vocational certifications, while receiving unconditional support by the staff around them. The Opportunity: The Postsecondary Teacher prepares students for successful transitions into postsecondary pathways after graduation from YouthBuild Philadelphia Charter School, including college, vocational training, apprenticeships, military service, workforce development programs, entrepreneurial ventures, supported pathways, and living-wage employment. The Postsecondary Teacher delivers engaging, student-centered instruction focused on postsecondary planning, college and career exploration, workforce readiness, professional skill development, self-advocacy, and life after high school. This role ensures every student develops a personalized, actionable postsecondary bridge plan aligned with their interests, strengths, and goals. Working closely with Student Advisors, Workforce Instructors, Postsecondary Success staff, and external partners, the Postsecondary Teacher connects students to the opportunities, resources, and experiences necessary for future success. Success in this role is measured not only by course completion, but by students' readiness to transition into and persist in their chosen postsecondary pathway. Three to five years’ teaching experience, preferred. A current 7-12 PA Teaching Certification, preferred. 3-5 years teaching experience, preferred. What You’ll Do: You are/have… Postsecondary Instruction & Career Readiness Teach four sections of classes daily using engaging, student-centered instructional practices. Guide students in identifying and evaluating postsecondary pathways, setting short- and long-term goals, understanding admissions and enrollment processes, and developing actionable plans for life after graduation. Support students in researching colleges and training programs, comparing options based on academic, financial, and personal fit, completing applications, writing personal statements, requesting recommendations, and navigating enrollment requirements. Facilitate self-assessments of interests, strengths, and values; expose students to a variety of career pathways; and help students establish realistic career goals aligned with labor market opportunities and personal aspirations. Prepare students for successful entry into the workforce by developing workplace competencies such as reliability, teamwork, time management, problem-solving, adaptability, and professional conduct. Teach students how to create, revise, and tailor professional resumes that effectively communicate their skills, experiences, certifications, and accomplishments for employment, training, and postsecondary opportunities. Equip students with strategies and practice opportunities to confidently participate in job, college, apprenticeship, and scholarship interviews, including responding to common questions, demonstrating professionalism, and communicating their strengths effectively. Develop students’ written, verbal, and digital communication skills, including email etiquette, workplace correspondence, public speaking, networking, active listening, and professional interactions with employers and postsecondary institutions. Build students’ understanding of personal finance concepts such as budgeting, banking, credit, debt management, taxes, financial aid, student loans, savings, and long-term financial planning. Teach expectations for professional behavior in educational and workplace settings, including accountability, punctuality, ethical decision-making, conflict resolution, workplace etiquette, and maintaining a positive professional reputation. Empower students to identify their needs, access resources, communicate effectively on their own behalf, evaluate options, make informed decisions, and navigate challenges independently in postsecondary and workplace environments. Create authentic learning experiences that connect classroom learning to real-world postsecondary opportunities. Develop lessons that strengthen transferable skills including communication, collaboration, critical thinking, resilience, accountability, adaptability, and problem-solving. Utilize instructional strategies that prioritize student voice, reflection, discussion, and application. Track student mastery of course competencies and provide frequent actionable feedback. Maintain accurate student records, grades, and progress updates through PowerSchool. Postsecondary Planning & Transition Support Guide students through the development of individualized postsecondary bridge plans aligned to their interests, strengths, and career goals. Support students with college, vocational training, apprenticeship, military, and employment application processes. Collaborate with Postsecondary Success staff, Workforce staff, and external partners to connect students with opportunities that support their goals. Facilitate career exploration activities, guest speakers, college and career visits, and other postsecondary exposure experiences. Ensure students graduate with a complete portfolio of postsecondary readiness artifacts, including resumes, applications, personal statements, career plans, and other pathway-specific requirements. Student Success & Mentorship Serve as a formal mentor for a cohort of 4–5 students, providing individualized support, encouragement, accountability, and goal monitoring. Build strong relationships with students that foster belonging, confidence, and persistence. Collaborate with Student Advisors and Specialized Services staff to address barriers impacting student success. Participate in student support meetings, intervention planning, and IEP meetings as needed. Implement accommodations and modifications in accordance with students’ IEPs, 504 Plans, and English Language Learner needs. Schoolwide Collaboration & Culture Work collaboratively in interdisciplinary teams to support student attendance, persistence, graduation, and postsecondary success. Facilitate one daily study hall period, maintaining a structured environment that promotes productivity and academic support. Participate actively in YouthBuild’s restorative, relationship-centered school culture. Attend staff meetings, professional development sessions, community meetings, and school events. Contribute positively to a highly collaborative and flexible school environment. Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Workforce Development.
