JOB DESCRIPTION

The vision of a Quantum Internet is to provide fundamentally new internet technology by enabling quantum communication between any two points on earth. Such a Quantum Internet will – in synergy with the ‘classical’ Internet that we have today - connect quantum processors in order to achieve unparalleled capabilities that are provably impossible using only classical communication.

Postdoc positions are available in the group of Prof. Dr. Stephanie Wehner at Delft University of Technology (QuTech and Quantum Computer Science) in the following domains:

  • Quantum Network Systems. Our group has designed and demonstrated the first operating system for the execution of quantum network applications on different types of quantum hardware. In the past, we have also designed a quantum network stack including the first link layer protocol, demonstrated on NV quantum hardware. Right now, our group is working on a range of quantum network system challenges, including quantum operating system concepts, compilation of network applications, and control plane algorithms and systems. The successful candidate has a strong background in classical or quantum network systems, operating systems or related systems research, and is excited by software systems research that works towards bringing quantum network technologies into the real world together with a diverse team from quantum hardware, software engineering, and quantum information.
  • Quantum Network Applications. The goal of this position is to discover new applications and use cases for a quantum network, with an emphasis on use cases developed with end users. The successful candidate has a strong background in quantum information, and enjoys exploring new ideas in a close collaboration with people from different domains and disciplines.

Postdocs have significant opportunities for advancing their leadership skills, for example, through proposing and supervising master student projects and candidates, joint supervision of PhD candidates, managing research projects, and leading independent research lines.
Department
Quantum Computer Science in Delft
Quantum Computer Science (QCS) is a growing subdivision of the Faculty of Electrical Engineering, Mathematics, and Computer Science (EEMCS) at TU Delft. QCS’ mission is to endow society with the full potential of quantum technologies. In view of this endeavor, QCS values research in all areas of quantum computing, quantum information, and quantum communication with a special focus on making quantum technologies a practical reality. QCS is part of QuTech — a leading institution in the development of a Quantum Internet and a Quantum Computer. This allows for close collaboration of QCS members with physicists and engineers at QuTech who build real-world quantum hardware, thus enabling opportunities of conducting research on all levels of the stack.

REQUIREMENTS

  • You have a PhD degree in physics, computer science, computer engineering, mathematics or physics or comparable discipline at the time of taking on the position. See details in the specific positions above.
