WHAT YOUR JOB WILL BE LIKE

Sandia’s Weapons of Mass Destruction (WMD) Threats & Aerosol Science department is seeking an enthusiastic, hardworking Postdoctoral Appointee to support modeling and simulation of particle/fluid phase of particulate laden flows. The selected candidate will predict particulate morphology, structure, and properties for challenging scenarios using available experimental and literature data.

On any given day, you may be called on to:

  • Run hydrodynamic and computational fluid dynamic (CFD) simulations including a dispersed particulate phase.
  • Analyze experimental data to inform simulation inputs.
  • Support experimental design using simulations.
  • Develop aerosol particle kinetics models.
  • Mentor technologists and interns.
  • Work collaboratively to execute, track, and refine project plans with an integrated multidisciplinary team.
  • Communicate your research internally through technical reports and presentations.

QUALIFICATIONS WE REQUIRE

  • PhD in Mechanical, Aerospace, Aeronautics, or Chemical Engineering, Physics, or other relevant fields.
  • Experience in the following:
  • Computational Fluid Dynamic (CFD) and/or hydrodynamic simulations.
  • Dispersed particulate modeling, simulation, and/or experimentation.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain DOE Q-level security clearance.

QUALIFICATIONS WE DESIRE

  • Experience modeling light transport through dynamic particulate-laden media.
  • Proven record of high technical accomplishment, as demonstrated by publication in high-impact scientific journals.
  • Strong verbal communication and data presentation skills, as demonstrated through presentations at scientific conferences.

NNSA REQUIREMENTS FOR MEDPEDS

If you have a Medical Portable Electronic Device (MedPED), such as a pacemaker, defibrillator, drug-releasing pump, hearing aids, or diagnostic equipment and other equipment for measuring, monitoring, and recording body functions such as heartbeat and brain waves, if employed by Sandia National Laboratories you may be required to comply with NNSA security requirements for MedPEDs.
If you have a MedPED and you are selected for an on-site interview at Sandia National Laboratories, there may be additional steps necessary to ensure compliance with NNSA security requirements prior to the interview date.
