Description
This postdoc position is for the American Physical Society Blewett Fellow and will perform research on data from the newly commissioned Vera C. Rubin Observatory. In particular, perform research to implement directional and temporal measurements of precipitable water vapor (PWV) at the Vera Rubin Observatory in order to reduce calibration uncertainties in the photometric data of the Legacy Survey of Space and Time (LSST). Calibration and correction of the impact of PWV on photometric observations is necessary to reap the full benefit of the LSST data to better understand the evolution of the universe and the nature of dark energy. Also serves in several other subsidiary roles, including as a mentor for graduate and undergraduate researchers. This position is funded for one year and housed within the Department of Physics and Astronomy at the University of Pittsburgh, working with Dr. Michael Wood-Vasey and collaborators. Required: PhD in Physics. Current recipient of the APS Blewett Fellowship.
Responsibilities
Perform research on data from the Vera C. Rubin Observatory, focusing on directional and temporal measurements of precipitable water vapor. Mentor graduate and undergraduate researchers while contributing to the calibration of photometric data.
