__________ DEPARTMENT OF BIOCHEMISTRY | TE TARI MATŪ KOIORA FACULTY OF BIOMEDICAL SCIENCES | TE KAUPEKA MĀTAI ROKOĀ-KOIORA About us | Mō mātou The Biochemistry Department is a large research and teaching department housed in a well-equipped building. We teach biochemistry, genetics, plant biotechnology, and related subjects to undergraduate and postgraduate students, and carry out research into how life works at the molecular level. The Role | Te Mahi This is an exciting opportunity for a postdoctoral fellow to work on a research project, performed under the supervision of Dr. Matthew McNeil, which will identify and analyse the impact of drug resistance mutations on mycobacterial physiology. Variants of interest identified from clinical and experimental datasets will be constructed in a laboratory strains of diverse mycobacterial pathogens. The impact of constructed mutations will be investigated using physiological assessments of bacterial fitness, in addition to genetic essentiality and proteomic workflows. The appointed researcher will be required to drive their own experimental investigations, and contribute to wider research efforts in the group. This will include supervision of junior scientists including post-graduate students. Therefore kindness, inclusivity, teamwork and respect for others is essential. Your skills and experience | Kā pūkeka me kā wheako • A PhD in molecular biology or a related discipline. • Experience in microbiology, proteomics, bacterial genetics and analysis of large datasets is highly desired. • Organised, methodical, proactive, with excellent attention to detail. • Experience supervising junior students in the lab. The start date may be negotiable with the ideal candidate. The salary for this position is $92,350 per annum.
