Description

We are seeking talented, disciplined, and motivated postdoctoral fellows with training and experience in one or more of the following: behavioral science, social science, psychology, and/or health services research, and a track record of peer-reviewed publications. Research areas of interest include cancer prevention and control, cancer health disparities, physical activity promotion, community engaged research, and implementation science.
The position is at The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center in the Health Disparities Research Department (HDR) of the Division of Cancer Prevention & Population Sciences in Houston, TX. Under the mentorship of Dr. Scherezade Mama, the fellow will engage in cutting-edge research aimed at understanding and addressing health disparities in cancer prevention, treatment, and survivorship. The fellow will be an integral part of an interdisciplinary research team and will contribute to various aspects of the research process, including but not limited to study design, participant recruitment and retention, data collection and analysis, community engagement, and dissemination of findings through publications and presentations at national and international scientific meetings and local and regional community events.
This fellowship offers a unique opportunity for the fellow to develop their own research agenda related to health disparities research and cancer prevention and control, with access to extensive resources and support from MD Anderson. The fellow will have the potential to leverage existing funding to apply for additional grants and supplements.

ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS

Qualifications:

  • PhD or equivalent doctoral degree in Public Health, Health Behavior, Health Education or Promotion, Community Health Practice, Community Psychology, Epidemiology, Psychology, Sociology, Nursing, or a related field.; or is currently enrolled in a doctoral degree program and will have fulfilled all degree requirements prior to beginning the postdoctoral fellowship
  • Knowledge and experience with cancer research
  • Be able to function in a separate and independent manner in the design and initiation of research experiments
  • Strong data analysis skills
  • Excellent oral presentation and writing skills
  • Advanced training in research methodology and strong publication record
  • Strong work ethic and commitment to becoming an independent scientist

Preferred Qualifications:

  • A defined research focus including (but not limited to) obesity and physical activity.
  • Established record of scholarly research, including extramural funding
