Description

The Department of Biomedical Engineering at the University of Virginia seeks a Research Associate to work in the Sheybani and Price laboratories, focusing on applications of focused ultrasound technology for cell and gene therapy applications in neurological disease settings. The applicant will be expected to interact with graduate students, perform in vivo molecular imaging and image-guided focused ultrasound experiments, and contribute to publications.

Minimum Requirements: A Ph.D. degree in Biomedical Engineering, including a thesis dissertation with emphasis on transcranial focused ultrasound, theranostics, and cell/gene therapy.
Preferred Qualifications: acoustics, small animal-focused ultrasound instrumentation, murine models of cancer or neurodegenerative disease, animal handling, cell/tissue culture, flow cytometry, small animal imaging, strong oral and written communication skills, and the ability to interact collegially with undergraduate and graduate students.
This position is offered as a 12-month appointment, with the possibility of renewal based on satisfactory performance and the availability of funding. This role is designed as a training opportunity in preparation for a full-time academic or research career. Postdoctoral Research Associates work under the supervision of a senior scholar, focusing on full-time research or scholarship, with the freedom to publish your findings.
