Applications are invited for a Postdoctoral Research Associate position in physical, inorganic and materials chemistry. You will work in the research group of Professor Dmitry Shchukin, Stephenson Institute for Renewable Energy, Department of Chemistry, University of Liverpool.
This is the joint project between UK (E.P.S.R.C. funding) and USA (NSF funding).
The project is targeted on an ultrasonic manufacturing concept to synthesise hemicellulose-based functional polymers using an ultrasound driven generation of hemicellulose dispersions with controlled dimensions of the colloids followed by polycondensation with 2,5-furandicarboxylic acid (FDCA) and other plant-based monomers. FDCA-based polyesters are closest by thermal and mechanical properties to petroleum-based poly (ethylene terephthalate). The project also includes the encapsulation active materials using ultrasonication methods for encapsulation of active materials for their use in targeted sustainable bioplastics.
The post is available from 1 July 2025 until 31 October 2026 with 3 months¿ probation time.
This role is eligible for sponsorship under the skilled worker route.
If you are still awaiting your PhD to be awarded you will be appointed at Grade 6, spine point 30. Upon written confirmation that you have been awarded your PhD, your salary will be increased to Grade 7, spine point 31.
