THE OPPORTUNITY:

Applications are invited for a Postdoctoral Research Associate in the laboratory of Prof Hiro Ohkura at University of Edinburgh, UK. The laboratory investigates fundamental mechanisms of meiotic chromosome segregation using Drosophila oocytes as a model system (http://ohkura.bio.ed.ac.uk). We are looking for an enthusiastic and talented researcher to study spindle regulation in Drosophila oocytes. This is an excellent opportunity to lead an exciting project combining approaches including live-imaging microscopy, genetics, mass-spectrometry and biochemistry. The position is available from January 2026 for 9 months.
This post is advertised as full-time (35 hours per week).

YOUR SKILLS AND ATTRIBUTES FOR SUCCESS:

  • Relevant PhD or equivalent experience in a relevant subject.
  • Candidates who have recently obtained a PhD or nearing the end of their PhD study are suitable.
  • Strong research experience in molecular biology, genetics, biochemistry, and/or cell biology, including immunostaining and live-imaging of Drosophila oocytes.
  • Excellent research outputs and at least one recent or forthcoming first-author publication.Effective organisational and project management skills.
