Description

A post-doctoral position in molecular microbial ecology and biotechnology is available immediately in the Williams Laboratory in the School of Engineering and Technology at Central Michigan University. The successful candidate will work on research projects related to quantifying antimicrobial resistance gene removal in environmental samples by anaerobic digestion and other biotechnologies and impact and removal of microplastics on digestion effectiveness. The successful candidate will have a strong background in research publications in the desired field, experience mentoring students, and excellent interpersonal skills.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • PhD in environmental engineering, environmental sciences, earth and ecosystems sciences, or a related field, by the position start date.
  • Expertise with one or more environmental genomics approach(es) including quantitative PCR, metagenomics, etc. to characterize microbial communities and functional capabilities.
  • Experience with anaerobic digestion technologies and methods for removal of antimicrobial resistance genes in environmental samples.
  • Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal skills.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience with high-throughput sequencing data analysis.
  • Experience working with and quantifying microplastics in complex samples.
  • Experience with meta-analysis of genomics data and model development for predicting outcomes.
  • Experience with publications and/or mentoring.
