KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS

Extensive knowledge of the fundamentals of nuclear physics including the operation of radiation detectors. The position requires capability of independent work with both hardware and software. The candidate will be expected to work in the setup and operation of semiconductor detectors, gas detectors, scintillator detectors and the solid hydrogen target. Prior experience with such systems and radioactive beam experiments will be considered as an added qualification. Experience with scientific computing. The work requires programming knowledge in C++. Experience of data analysis with the ROOT analysis framework is desirable.

QUALIFICATIONS

A PhD degree in nuclear physics or nuclear astrophysics (received within 5 years). Candidates who are expecting to receive their Ph.D. degree by the expected start date will also be considered.

Responsibilities
  • Participates in all IRIS experiments, providing support in the setup of detectors, electronics, target operation and data analysis.
  • Provides support and expertise in facility operation and maintenance, as well as DAQ, solid H2/D2 target and detector upgrades.
  • Work during beamtime involves some overnight work shifts.
  • Will be required to work closely with undergraduate and graduate students.
  • repares reports and documentation.
  • isseminates results as articles in peer-reviewed scientific journals and at national and international conferences and workshops;
  • Will be encouraged to perform and collaborate on theoretical calculations for the reactions for the interpretation of the experimental data.
