The research groups of Financial Computing and Data Analytics and Computational Intelligence, led by Professors Juho Kanniainen and Alexandros Iosifidis, have been pioneers in developing low-latency machine learning models for Limit Order Book (LOB) driven financial markets. Together with their international collaborators, they have published in top-tier AI journals and rank among the most cited researchers in this field. Their TABL model, which has gained significant international attention and recognition, along with its derivatives, stands among the most influential and highest-performing models for LOB prediction.
JOB DESCRIPTION
We are now looking for a postdoctoral research fellow to join our team on a project funded by Nasdaq Nordic Foundation. In the project, we develop AI-based limit order book (LOB) models for two key purposes: detecting potentially manipulative LOB messages that could trigger significant market disruption, and optimizing the execution of large orders by splitting them to minimize total market impact, including indirect effects. The project is designed as a three-year initiative, with funding granted by Nasdaq one year at a time based on progress. The initial employment contract is for one year, with a clear aim to extend it as the project advances successfully. Participation in project management and instruction of Ph.D. students is required. The job requires occasional traveling to international conferences to disseminate the research results. International research visits to other universities or research institutes are also possible.
REQUIREMENTS
A successful candidate holds a Ph.D. in a relevant field such as Computer Science, Quantitative Finance, Statistics, or Computational Physics, with strong expertise in machine learning and excellent programming skills. A strong background in mathematics is considered an asset. Prior knowledge of high-frequency trading is beneficial but not required, as long as you’re able to learn quickly. Publications in well-recognized outlets are required.
The position also requires:
Tampere University is a unique, multidisciplinary, forward-thinking and evolving community. Our values are openness, critical thinking, diversity, learner-centredness, courage, erudition and responsibility. We hope you can embrace these values and promote them in your role.
