POSTDOCTORAL RESEARCHER IN ELECTROCHEMICAL ANALYSIS OF GUNSHOT RESIDUES

We are seeking to hire a Postdoctoral Scientist to develop a fast and reliable electrochemical method for analyzing gunshot residues (GSR). GSR analysis is a critical component of forensic science, as it can provide vital evidence to determine whether a suspect has discharged a firearm. Current methods for GSR analysis are time-consuming, and there is a pressing need for a faster approach to guide forensic investigations effectively.
In collaboration with the Netherlands Forensic Institute (NFI), the postdoctoral researcher will establish a new working protocol for GSR analysis based on square wave voltammetry. The protocol will be developed through experiments conducted on realistic mock samples, and it will be validated using samples obtained from our collaborators (NFI and the police), collected following firearm discharges.
Work and profile
The Faculty of Science Leiden and the Leiden Institute of Chemistry are looking for a postdoctoral researcher with a background in electrochemistry. The candidate should have completed a PhD in electrochemistry, ideally with experience in electrochemical sensing.
