Description

Position Title: Postdoctoral Researcher in Power Systems and Microgrids
Department: 9040|Energy Institute
Responsibilities:
The Energy Institute of Louisiana is seeking a Postdoctoral Researcher in Power Systems and Microgrids to support Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development (DOTD)-funded initiatives aimed at enhancing the reliability, resilience, and sustainability of port infrastructure. This position requires advanced engineering expertise in power system operation, microgrid control, and energy resilience, with a strong emphasis on real-time simulation and hands-on power electronics applications. The successful candidate will leverage hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) platforms such as Typhoon HIL to develop innovative energy solutions. Strong communication and technical writing skills are essential for effective collaboration and dissemination of research outcomes.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct research in power systems operation, microgrid control strategies, and energy resilience for port infrastructure
  • Develop, implement, and validate real-time simulation models using platforms such as Typhoon HIL
  • Analyze and optimize grid stability, outage response, renewable energy integration, and fault response strategies
  • Collaborate on the prototyping and testing of power electronics systems
  • Publish research findings in peer-reviewed journals and present at academic and industry conferences

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Doctoral degree in Electrical Engineering.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Peer-reviewed publications in power systems/microgrids.
  • Experience with HIL testing and programmable source/load systems.
  • Prior industry or government collaborative projects.

SKILLS, ABILITIES, ETC.:

  • Expertise in power systems/microgrid operation/control and real-time simulation tools.
  • Hands-on experience with Typhoon HIL or similar HIL platforms.
  • Proficiency in energy resilience analysis and power electronics.
  • Strong technical writing, communication, and presentation skills.
  • Knowledge of AI and optimization algorithms (e.g., MILP, metaheuristics).
  • Coding skills (Python, MATLAB) for simulation/data analysis.
