JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

The Stroke Outcome Research team at Pennsylvania State University, Neurology Department in Hershey, PA, offers a post-doctoral position. This is a full-time research position with full benefits for one year, with the possibility of renewal for one additional year, conditional on research performance.
A new post-doctoral scholar will support the research projects on designing and implementing behavioral change interventions for stroke survivors. Generally, the post-doctoral scholar must be technically capable in either of these or both areas. The post-doctoral scholar must be ready to conduct research involving the design of novel behavioral interventions, conduct human studies, and build computational models to implement existing behavioral paradigms such as Just In Time Adaptive Interventions.
The post-doctoral scholar will explore many issues related to computer science, behavioral science, and stroke. For example, in the context of computer science, we investigate AI/ML algorithms to deliver behavioral interventions at the moments of need and how those can/should be modified to account for personalized preferences. To accomplish this goal, we study behavior and build computational interventional models for individuals.

Required qualifications:

  • MD or PhD (completed by start of employment) in computer science or behavioral science.
  • A technical background is required regardless of the Ph.D. degree;
  • Experience with programming (Python, Java, Javascript, PhP, and others)
  • Training in behavioral science research methods and statistical analyses.
  • Experience with statistical software (preferably R, others acceptable).
  • Experience with computational modeling (e.g., reinforcement learning, planning).
  • Proven writing abilities through publicationsExcellent verbal communication skills.

  • Experience with human subject interventional studies.
  • Experience working with interdisciplinary, collaborative teams, and managing research assistants.
