Description

POSITION DESCRIPTION:

A postdoctoral research scholar position is available in Dr. Jun Wang’s research lab, “Atmospheric and Environmental Research Lab” or AER lab - a vibrant and collaborative research group at the Iowa Technology Institute in the College of Engineering at the University of Iowa. The initial appointment is funded for one year from the date of hire with the possibility of reappointment contingent on performance and available funds. AER lab’s research primarily focuses on the integration of satellite remote sensing and chemistry transport model to study air quality, wildfires, aerosol-cloud interaction, land-air interaction, and the interaction of climate change and atmospheric composition. Depending on the candidate’s interest, this position will focus on at least one of the following areas: (a) developing the technique to improve the prediction of aerosols and traces gases via data assimilation and machine-learning techniques, (b) process understanding of the neighborhood risk of heat waves and fires associated with the change of weather pattern, and (c) novel algorithm development to characterize aerosols and fires from space. For more info on Dr. Wang’s lab, please visit the website: https://arroma.uiowa.edu/.
A post-doctoral scholar will work in a rich environment in which faculty, post-doctoral fellows, research scientists and graduate/undergraduate students regularly interact and conduct collaborative research studies. They will have the opportunity to mentor graduate students, serve as guest lecturers in different classes, lead collaborative research tasks that involve students and other researchers, and contribute to the proposal planning and writing process as well as research project management. They will also be responsible for the publication of their research work through conferences presentation and peer-reviewed articles.
