Cognizant is seeking a highly skilled PostgreSQL DBA with 8+ years of experience in managing, tuning, and securing PostgreSQL environments in production. This is a remote role, and the candidate has to be located in the United States and must have valid work authorization. The ideal candidate will have hands-on expertise in high availability (HA) using Patroni, vacuuming strategies, backup and recovery, and performance tuning. Knowledge of Kerberos authentication is a strong plus. This is a remote role, and the candidate has to be located in the United States and must have valid work authorization. Cognizant is unable to offer visa sponsorship for this role. The salary range for this role is $114,000 to $133500. Applications will be accepted till 10/15/2025. Key Responsibilities: Install, configure, and maintain PostgreSQL database clusters in production and non-production environments. Design and implement high availability (HA) and failover solutions using Patroni and etcd/Consul. Perform regular vacuuming and reindexing to maintain database health and performance. Develop and manage backup and recovery strategies using tools like pgBackRest, Barman, or native PostgreSQL utilities. Monitor database performance and tune queries, indexes, and configurations for optimal throughput and latency. Implement and manage Kerberos-based authentication and other security best practices. Automate routine DBA tasks using scripting (Bash, Python, etc.). Collaborate with development and infrastructure teams to support application requirements. Troubleshoot database-related issues and provide 24x7 support for critical incidents. Maintain documentation for database architecture, procedures, and standards. Required Skills & Qualifications: 8+ years of experience as a PostgreSQL DBA in production environments. Strong hands-on experience with Patroni HA, PostgreSQL streaming replication, and failover mechanisms. Deep understanding of PostgreSQL internals, auto vacuum, and transaction management. Proficiency in backup and recovery tools and strategies. Experience with performance tuning, query optimization, and indexing strategies. Familiarity with Kerberos authentication and integration with PostgreSQL. Strong Linux/Unix administration skills. Scripting experience (Bash, Python, or similar). Excellent problem-solving and communication skills. Preferred Qualifications: Experience with cloud-based PostgreSQL (e.g., AWS RDS, Azure Database for PostgreSQL). Familiarity with containerized environments (Docker, Kubernetes). Exposure to monitoring tools like Prometheus, Grafana, or pg_stat_statements. PostgreSQL certification is a plus.
