Responsibilities

THE ROLE

Verdyn is developing a new multi-source DC/DC and AC/DC converter platform (~1 MW class), and we’re looking for a Power Electronics Controls Engineer to lead control strategy design from concept to commissioning. You’ll own current/voltage loop design, source-management logic, and real-time implementation on industrial controllers—helping create new IP for Verdyn.

WHAT YOU’LL DO:

  • Design control architecture for a multi-source converter (≈1 MW): current/voltage loops, sequencing, protection, start-up/shutdown, and source prioritization/power-flow.
  • Model & simulate converter topologies and plant dynamics in MATLAB/Simulink with Simscape Electrical; validate control stability/robustness.
  • Implement controls on Beckhoff TwinCAT 3/PLC (Structured Text and related languages), including real-time tasks, I/O, and safety interlocks.
  • Develop supervisory logic (state machines, derating, thermal/EMI constraints, grid/microgrid modes).
  • HIL/SIL testing and automated verification; bring-up in the lab and support factory/site commissioning.
  • Create IP: contribute to invention disclosures, design notes, and control software documentation.
  • Collaborate with power hardware, firmware, and systems engineers to align models, sensors/actuators, and protections.
