JOB OVERVIEW

The foremost duty of the Central Heating Plant Relief Operator (Maintenance) is that of relieving the regular Operators during vacations and sickness and to operate on a regular basis as required and set forth by the Supervisor. The Relief Operator (Maintenance) will also fill any position left vacant for any reason by a regular Operator provided he has the proper qualifications, as set forth by the Department of Labour. At all times, duties are to be performed using approved PPE and safety procedures.

EXPERIENCE/KNOWLEDGE:

· The Relief Operator (Maintenance) must have a broad knowledge of operations concerning the Central Heating Plant, steam distribution and condensate return systems, refrigeration equipment and large air conditioning equipment.
· Power Engineer’s Certificate of Qualifications, 2nd Class for the Province of Nova Scotia, or Standardized for all of Canada, along with demonstrated maintenance experience.

Responsibilities
  • Monthly inspections, minor maintenance and repair on underground steam and condensate systems along with a mechanical tradesman when necessary.
  • Lubrication of all underground expansion joints.
  • Analyzing condensate return water from each building on a monthly basis and reporting results to Supervisor.
  • Keep emergency parts inventory at Central Heating Plant up to date as assigned by the Supervisor.
  • Keep in touch with all pressure vessels coming under the Department of Labour inspections and their condition.
  • As directed, operate brine pumps once per week during rink shutdown period.
  • Steam trap inspection and upkeep as assigned by Supervisor.
  • Shares in the cleaning of the boilers and related equipment and keeping them in good operating condition.
