OVERVIEW

Our client, a leading paper manufacturer in Northern Ontario with over 100 years of history, is seeking an experienced Power Engineer to join their team.
With ambitious plans for improvement, the goal is to ensure the mill is a pulp, paper, and energy super facility supporting regional sawmills and utilizing available forest biomass. They are well placed to invest in innovative practices to enhance productivity and ensure a sustainable future for the facilities, employees and the community.
The Power Engineer (3rd or 2nd Class) will oversee the operation, maintenance, and testing of boilers, condensate systems, and auxiliary equipment, ensuring safe and efficient plant operations while assisting in troubleshooting and chemical management.

REQUIREMENTS

· Experience with operating boiler equipment via DCS & their auxiliaries is an asset.
· Minimum Ontario Third Class (TSSA) Power Engineering License.
· Willing to learn in a fast-paced industrial environment.
· Participation in the current training matrix for progression toward the next highest Power Engineering license.
· Strong level of maturity, interpersonal and communication skills.

Responsibilities

· Performs testing on all boilers and condensate systems.
· Assists with the operation of gas boilers.
· Adjusts chemical feed rates to maintain residuals.
· Visually checks equipment under his care (fans, stokers, grates, dampers, valves, and controllers) on all levels of the Steam & Effluent Plant.
· Blows down water columns and gauge glasses.
· Monitors softeners for hardness and regenerates softeners when necessary.
· Mixes and maintains caustic tank and feed rates.
· Assists during plug-ups on wood waste system.
· Assists Biomass Operator on loader at times.
· Changes chart and perform data entry in computer.
· Records any operational problems in the operation logs.
· Changes various filters around the plant (precip, degasifier, MCC room, etc.).
· Assists with lockouts.
· Assists with the chemical unloading.
· Checks and starts up air compressors when required.
· Performs duties as assigned by the Shift Engineer as required (other mill areas).
· Takes steps needed to be taken in case of loss of a critical piece of equipment to ensure boilers stay operating.
· Support the Chief Operating Engineer and uphold the TSSA Operating Engineers’ Act and regulations.
