QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS

  • National Certificate in Electrical Supply (Power Technician) Level 5 or similar with two years or more post qualification experience
  • A tertiary qualification at a polytechnic diploma level is required.
  • EWRB Practicing License Required.
  • Hands-on experience in power systems and electrical protection work to industry standards.
  • A thorough knowledge of current regulatory and industry requirements.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills
  • Sound computer skills
  • High voltage protection system commissioning experience and confidence to make decisions autonomously.
  • Possess a valid full and clean NZ driver’s license.

Responsibilities

Looking for your next big opportunity? We’ve got an exciting Power Systems Technician role just for you! The successful candidate will be responsible for testing, commissioning, and maintaining high voltage electrical equipment across substations, transmission networks and industrial facilities for the company’s Power Services Division. Experience in testing of complex protection relays would be an advantage.

  • Providing expertise on testing, commissioning, repairs & maintenance across the power distribution network
  • Carry out testing and commissioning of advanced digital and microprocessor-based protection schemes
  • Conduct secondary system testing, including protection relays, control systems, and SCADA interfaces.
  • Perform testing and commissioning of primary HV equipment (e.g., transformers, circuit breakers, capacitor banks, switchgear).
  • Analyze test results and prepare detailed technical reports.
  • Working collaboratively with project/maintenance teams, clients, and contractors to deliver high-quality outcomes.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve faults in HV systems during commissioning and maintenance phases.

• Working to international standards

  • Installing/maintaining substation and other high voltage equipment, as per job instructions and specifications, meeting current regulations and standards.
  • Produce quality assurance documentation.
  • Managing electricity supply work control systems.
  • Complying and co-operating with any reasonable instruction, policy, or procedure by the company to allow the company to comply with their duties and obligations under the Health and Safety at Work Act
  • Understanding and implementing the company health and safety policy and taking reasonable care of own health and safety and the health and safety of others.
  • Setting a personal example on all matters of health and safety and participate in Perimeter/BU worker participation practices
