Downer’s Energy & Utilities team is seeking an experienced Power Technician to join our Auckland‑based operation supporting the Vector electricity network. This is a specialist, hands‑on role focused on high‑voltage protection, substation assets and SCADA systems, delivering work that directly supports the reliability of Auckland’s power supply. If you enjoy technical depth, autonomy in your work and tackling complex HV problems, this role offers genuine challenge and long‑term opportunity. Te kōwhiringa | The Opportunity Based in Wiri, Auckland you’ll provide specialist technical services across Protection, HV equipment and SCADA systems for the region. Operating alongside a team of experts, your work will include maintenance, testing, installation, commissioning and fault response on critical infrastructure within substations and switchyards.  Be responsible for:  * Maintenance, testing and commissioning of HV protection systems and digital relays * Testing and commissioning of transformers, HV switchgear, cables, automation and rotating plant * End‑to‑end protection and SCADA scheme testing within substations * Commissioning, servicing and fault‑finding on RTUs, communications and SCADA networking * Diagnosing and rectifying faults beyond standard operating procedures * Participating in electricity supply work control systems and after‑hours response This is a full‑time, permanent role with participation in an after‑hours on‑call roster and exposure to a wide variety of HV plant, protection schemes and communication systems. You’ll be trusted to work independently while supported by a highly experienced Energy & Utilities team.
