Astley Hire is recruiting an Powered Access CAP engineer. Astley Hire Limited is an industrial hire business situated in Leigh, Greater Manchester. We are in the middle of the Northwest, so we can serve the entire region from our one location. Astley Hire was founded in 1966 and whilst the business has gone through many changes since then, we still maintain a family business feeling, focusing on providing a professional service. In 2022 we became one of the first businesses in the hire industry to declare its carbon neutrality and have this third party accredited.
The business is broken down into several divisions covering Powered Access, Cleaning, Scaffolding, Heating, Cooling, Maintenance and Training. This role is primarily to carry out Pre delivery inspection, repairs and LOLERs within our powered access division. We are an IPAF+ approved powered access company with over 300 machines in our fleet with 85% battery powered and 15% Hybrid / bi-energy. We have a range of manufacturers such as JLG, Genie, Dingli, Nifty lift, Snorkel and Pop up with equipment ranging up to 22 meters working height.
The main focus of our customer base is within the north west of England how ever there are some pieces of equipment on long term hire a bit further a field. Around 70% of the role is depot based, at our location on Jury street in Leigh with the other 30% onsite based either reacting to breakdown on equipment or completing planned LOLER and servicing visits.
As part of the role you will be preparing equipment for its next hire which entails washing it off, carrying out a PDI (pre delivery inspection) and completing any repairs that are required. You will be working in tandem with hire desk to ensure we have good availability on a range of equipment to ensure we can react to our customers needs as they arise. Our core values as a business are quality, reliability and service, it is therefore key to the role that work carried out matches these values. We try to keep the quality within our fleet which may mean that time is invested in refurbishment of equipment.
When on customers sites you will need to adhere to their site safety policies and ensure your work is causing as least disruption to them as possible. You will need to inter act with clients and keep them informed of progress. As part of the role you will need to deal with clients breakdowns which start with a phone call to evaluate the issue before attending site to resolve the issue if required. The role is part of a team that includes a workshop manager who is CAP assessed and another CAP engineer. Then there is a wider team in the depot of 5 more engineers and drivers some of who have PDI licence to assist with PDIs when required. The role is 45 hours per week Monday to Friday 7.30am until 5pm.
