We’re looking for talented, committed individuals to join our team as we push onward toward certifying the Joby aircraft, scaling our manufacturing, and launching our initial commercial service. Overview Joby Aviation is seeking a passionate Mechanical Engineer to join our Powertrain and Electronics Battery Engineering team in San Carlos, CA to support development of the Joby S4 Electric Vertical Take-Off and Landing vehicle. This individual will be responsible for designing hardware for various systems that power and control the aircraft. This position requires a relentless drive for engineering excellence and the ability to balance complex competing objectives and priorities. The position will work cross-functionally and be responsible for the entire development cycle from early architecture through production. Responsibilities Design components, subassemblies, and systems Perform analysis (models/simulation) to support design decisions Plan/execute development tests to support design decisions Work with external vendors and internal manufacturing/fabrication teams to build hardware Work with the testing team to support verification testing of hardware Required B.S. or higher in mechanical engineering 3+ years of demonstrated engineering experience - preferably “full-stack” with exposure to test, design, equipment/component selection, hands-on builds, bring-up and troubleshooting Proficiency with professional 3D modeling software, preferably with Catia 3D Experience Proficiency in mechanical design, materials selection, kinematics, troubleshooting, and analysis Excellent problem solving and communication skills Strong analytical background – able to use first principles to drive/inform design Desired M.S./Ph.D. in relevant discipline 5+ years of working experience in automotive or aerospace industry Experience with Dassault Systemes CAD, specifically using Generative Shape Design, Part Design, and Assembly Design Experience with finite element tools (Abaqus) Direct battery engineering experience Additional Information Compensation at Joby is a combination of base pay and Restricted Stock Units (RSUs). The target base pay for this position is $98,200 - $130,900/yr. The compensation package will be determined by job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.
