Sun PR is looking for an entry level PR Specialist to contribute to the success of its dynamic team of communicators. While this is a junior role, we’re looking for someone who has gained relevant experience through internships or part-time roles and is eager to bring those skills to a dynamic team environment. This position is based in San Diego or surrounding areas.
Sun PR is a full-service communications agency focused on helping companies and NGOs identify and build engaging narratives tailored for key audiences to steer industry dialogues in new directions. With a focus on climate tech and sustainability, our teams create compelling content for earned and social media communications strategies to reach a wide variety of our clients’ stakeholders, including customers, investors, policymakers and academics. Based in Austin, Texas with offices in Austin, San Diego, and New York, our clients are addressing global climate ambitions and societal challenges with technical ingenuity and advocacy.
This role will be based in San Diego, CA. While day-to-day work is remote, the San Diego team will meet in-office bi-monthly.

REQUIRED SKILLS:

· Bachelor’s degree in journalism, communications, public relations or marketing
· Up to three years of experience, ideally including internships or entry-level work in an agency or communications setting supporting climate, energy, and/or technology topics
· Strong interest in climate, environmental advocacy, energy and/or technology
· Exceptional communication, writing and storytelling skills
· Demonstrated ability to prioritize tasks and effectively manage time
· Driven and self-motivated, must have the ability to take initiative without extensive formal training
· High level of follow-through
· Strong attention to detail with the ability to self-review work
· Fast learner and persistent regardless of challenge of task at hand
· Deep social media skills and personal experience on multiple platforms
· Nuanced understanding of earned media and how journalists like to receive information
· Microsoft Office and Google Workspace experience

Responsibilities

· Work collaboratively with a remote team to assist with the creation of compelling content to steer industry dialogues in new directions
· Research client market trends via earned and social media
· Analyze and track media coverage, as well as social impressions and trends
· Provide social support and strategy for clients, including managing social tools and drafting posts
· Create and manage weekly client status reports and monthly activity reports
· Conduct media relations with technology, climate and energy journalists in the U.S. and EU
· Identify and build relationships with new media contacts and strengthen relationships with existing journalists and influencers
· Monitor and analyze the effectiveness of PR efforts and communicate insights to management
