Description:

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • LPN Diploma with significant clinical experience
  • Current registration with the College of Licensed Practical Nurses of Alberta (CLPNA) or the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA)
  • Recent clinical / practical experience
  • Excellent communication, public relations and interpersonal skills
  • Passion for teaching, ability to inspire students, and commitment to student learning and success
  • Ability to work effectively in a variety of team environments
  • Proven commitment to continuous learning and reflective practice
  • Current Heart and Stroke Foundation Basic Life Support Provider or Recertification Certificate (HSF-BLS Provider)
  • Driver’s License

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES

Red Deer Polytechnic is currently inviting applications for part-time Instructor(s) in the Practical Nurse program for the Winter and Spring terms.
RDP’s Practical Nurse program offers clinical, lab, and theory instruction during day and evening, hours. Faculty may be assigned to instructional workload as required to support program needs.

For the 2024/2025 academic year the Practical Nurse program will be offered in:

  • Red Deer
  • Drumheller
  • Ponoka
  • Rocky Mountain House
  • Stettler
  • Three Hills

You may be assigned instructional workload that requires travel to urban and rural locations in addition to teaching on the RDP campus. Travel and related expenses will be reimbursed according to the Travel and Related Expenses policy.
The Practical Nurse program is a two year diploma that prepares students to become a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) following graduation and successful completion of the Canadian Practical Nurse Registration Exam. It is an approved program by the CLPNA’s Education Standards Advisory Committee.
The Practical Nurse program provides exceptional opportunities to work closely with students, faculty and staff in a supportive environment that promotes innovation, scholarship and commitment to student success. Red Deer Polytechnic offers an excellent professional development program that helps faculty to continuously develop skills, knowledge and expertise specific to teaching and learning as well as their respective discipline.

Responsibilities of this position include (but are not limited to):

  • Teaching students in classroom, lab, and/or clinical settings with flexibility for both face to face and online course delivery.
  • Creating a stimulating, effective, and learner-centered environment.
  • Preparing, reviewing and/or updating course material.
  • Marking, grading, and evaluation of student work.
  • Providing ongoing feedback, guidance, and assistance to students.
  • Actively contributing and participating in program planning, curriculum development & review, and project work.
  • Actively engaging in scholarly activity.
  • Participating in School and College-wide initiatives and/or committees.
  • Upholding the Professional Responsibilities of Faculty at RDP which are described within the Faculty Performance Policy.
  • Demonstrating and promoting RDP organizational values and following RDP policies and practices.
