KEY SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

  • Strong academic credentials (J.D. required);
  • Between 7 – 10 years of experience practicing in a law firm’s litigation group;
  • California Bar membership (in good standing) required;
  • Experience with taking and defending depositions and handling court proceedings;
  • Excellent drafting, writing, research and communication skills;
  • Interpersonal skills and capability to communicated with defense counsel; both local and across the U.S.
  • Exposure to sophisticated disputes and investigations (state and federal);
  • Strong project management with an ability to balance a large number of competing priorities;
  • Attention to detail; and
  • Ability to work independently and contribute to a team;
  • Compensation commensurate with experience ranging from $250,000 - $285,000.
Responsibilities

THIS ROLE WILL SIT IN OUR SAN FRANCISCO OFFICE.

  • Responsibilities will include all phases of litigation and arbitration; especially in commercial, maritime, and transportation matters.
  • Oversee and manage state and federal insurance claims for both pre-litigation and litigation phases; including, assessing and preparing claims, and providing advice and recommendations to third party administrators.
  • Familiarity with reviewing and analyzing contracts/agreements for indemnity obligations.
  • Experience with insurance defense litigation, broker liability (including research on trends in case law), FAAAA preemption, and independent contractor issues preferred.
  • Knowledge of and ability to draft pleadings (complaint and answer), motions, and memoranda of law. Including tenders/demands for defense and indemnity.
  • Previous experience handling all phases of discovery, including drafting discovery requests and responses to discovery requests, and analysis of information produced in discovery.
  • Ability to take and defend depositions, handle court appearances, and work collaboratively with team members to develop strategies for each case.
  • The role will also involve contributing to the team’s profile and undertaking business development activities to establish, develop, and maintain long-term relationships; including, writing articles/posts, attending events/conferences and building networks with private wealth contacts/intermediaries including global and peer firms and counsel.
