PRACTICE EDUCATOR (SOCIAL WORK)

Job description
Are you an experienced, registered Social Worker who has a Practice Educator Award (Stage One and Two), with currency? Are you passionate about playing a vital role in assessing, supporting, providing guidance and oversight to social work students to apply and extend their knowledge, skills and values in a social work practice setting?
Leeds Trinity University is committed to providing high quality support and guidance to student social workers and our practice placement partners in the supervision and assessment of practice.
For this key aspect of our work, we are looking to appoint experienced social workers who hold the Practice Educators award and have currency as off-site Practice Educators. You would work as an $ùoff-site&© (arm&©s length) Practice Educator with students in placement settings, working alongside a Work based Supervisor, who will be in the placement setting and be responsible for day-to-day support and supervision.
We are looking for individuals with current knowledge and experience in social work from a range of practice settings and service user groups. You will be responsible for the support, supervision and assessment of social work students in either first (80 day) or final (90 days) placements in line with their scope of practice, to enable then to meet the relevant social work capabilities, module and programme outcomes. This will include regular supervision (including joint supervision of the student with the Work Based Supervisor), observation of practice, teaching and support to the student, and attendance at joint meetings with the University Tutor. You will be expected to provide a written assessment and judgement of the students&© practice against the relevant Professional Capability Standards (British Association of Social Workers) and attend regular supervisory meetings with students, in addition to the learning agreement meeting, mid-way review and final meeting. Additional support, written evidence and attendance at action planning meetings may be required in the event of any student difficulties. A good understanding of the opportunities and challenges associated with working with a diverse range of social work students is essential for this post. You will also be expected to attend relevant briefings, meetings and training and contribute to the wider process to ensure high quality practice placements and experiences for students (for example, quality assurance of practice placements (QAPL).
The postholders will primarily support student social workers and practice placement partners in the West Yorkshire area. However, visits to the Leeds Trinity Horsforth Campus and to partner organisations outside the West Yorkshire area may also be required.
The base for the Social Work programme is at Leeds Trinity University campus in Horsforth, Leeds, however, most meetings with students will be at placement partner premises within the West Yorkshire area. Through our agile working framework, there will also be the option to spend time working remotely, which will be discussed further with candidates at interview.
