We are looking for an experienced and proactive Practice Manager to join our team and work closely with the Senior Management Team and Partners. This role is key to ensuring the efficient day-to-day operation of the practice and supporting the delivery of excellent patient care.

SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Proven experience as a Practice Manager or in a similar role within a healthcare setting.
  • Strong leadership and team management skills.
  • Good understanding of GP practice operations, NHS procedures, and healthcare regulations.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to build positive relationships with staff, patients, and external partners.
  • Financial management experience, including budgeting and payroll.
  • Strong IT skills and experience with practice management software.
  • A proactive, problem-solving approach to managing challenges.

HUMAN RESOURCE MANAGEMENT

  • Managing the administrative and reception staff and non-clinical management of nursing staff, including securing funding and taking lead responsibility in staff appraisal and organising recruitment, selection and training of staff.
  • Ensuring contracts of employment are provided to all staff and that all relevant employment legislation is followed.
  • Ensuring the practices employment policies and procedures are comprehensive and up to date. Manage staffing levels within budgetary targets and retention ambition. 
  • Evaluate, organise and oversee staff training and ensure that all staff are adequately trained to fulfil their role.
  • Overseeing and where necessary conducting staff appraisals and keeping records thereof.
  • Support and mentor staff, both as individuals and as team members.
  • Implement effective systems for the resolution of disputes and grievances.
  • Keep abreast of changes in employment legislation. 
  • Maintain up-to-date HR documentation (including job descriptions, employment contracts and employment policies) 
  • Using TeamNet and working with the management assistant, to manage annual leave requests and oversee team leaders to manage staff absences.
Responsibilities

  • Oversee the daily operations of the practice, ensuring smooth functioning for both staff and patients.
  • Work closely with the Senior Management Team and Partners to manage the practice’s priorities and strategic direction.
  • Ensure the practice complies with all healthcare regulations, policies, and procedures.
  • Take responsibility for practice finances, including budgeting, invoicing, and payroll.
  • Lead recruitment, training, and performance management of staff to ensure a high-performing team.
  • Identify areas for improvement and implement systems to enhance operational efficiency and patient care.
  • Liaise with external partners and form good working relationships within the NN4 PCN.
  • Monitor practice performance, producing regular reports for senior management.
  • Ensure effective use of practice IT systems and maintain confidentiality of patient data.

MAIN PURPOSE OF ROLE

To work with the Business Manager the Partners and other members of the management team to ensure the efficient and effective running of the Practice. 
Responsibility for the smooth, efficient running of the practice, by inspiring, motivating and supporting day to day, a happy and committed team, to deliver high quality healthcare to patients.
Working with the Business Manager to keep the partners abreast of forthcoming changes in the NHS and giving them options for responding to change. The practice manager will give guidance to team leaders in ensuring all elements of the business meets our aims in relation to quality, statutory obligations, financial stability and excellent patient service.
