Job overview
We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Practice Nurse to join our team, working closely with clinicians to provide high-quality patient care. This role involves administering vaccinations, conducting cervical screening, wound care, and supporting patients with lifestyle advice and chronic disease management. You will play a key part in maintaining infection control standards, mentoring junior staff, and ensuring accurate patient record-keeping.

Main duties of the job

Duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Work collaboratively with clinicians to deliver high-quality patient care, ensuring adherence to protocols and best practices.
  • Support compliance with prescribed treatments while providing lifestyle advice and emotional support to patients and their families.
  • Administer injections to adults and children, ensuring proper vaccine storage, handling, and disposal.
  • Carry out cervical screening, ECGs, blood tests, wound care, and specimen collection, including venepuncture, swabs, and urine cultures.
  • Maintain accurate patient records and contribute to clinical documentation and audits.
  • Mentor healthcare assistants and junior staff, supporting their development and training.
  • Lead or assist with infection prevention and control, ensuring best practices are followed.
  • Monitor and manage medical stock, equipment, and treatment room supplies, ensuring efficiency and compliance.
  • Contribute to the review and implementation of clinical policies and procedures to improve service delivery.
  • Support the practice in achieving Quality Outcomes Framework (QOF) targets and participating in local quality improvement initiatives.
  • Assist in organising and administering treatments during vaccination campaigns, such as flu clinics.
