Description Summary This position functions as the primary assistant to the Pre-Admission Testing (PAT) staff for procedures in Pre-Op, Peri-Op and Post-Op Areas at Salt Creek Surgery Center. Individuals in this position are proficient in dealing with inquiries from patients on the phone and face to face if necessary. Responsibilities Assists nurses with assembling new and existing patients charts/records for their upcoming surgery. Assumes responsibilities of preparing charts, including, but not limited to preparing charts with patient labels, scanning, assembling and filing all information required for medical records. Retrieves medical information and communicates with doctors’ offices to obtain appropriate medical information needed per Anesthesia guidelines at the direction of the PAT nurses. Files information and documents into patients charts accurately. Inputs data into electronic medical records (EMR) database as needed via typing, scanning, or uploading documents. Communicates accurate and timely information regarding patients and their care to the PAT RN and and/or their significant others when appropriate. Demonstrates positive interpersonal relationships with patients, significant others and coworkers. Utilizes appropriate lines of communication. Calls patients with information of arrival times for the next day and reviewing any pertinent information for arrival at that time. Maintains the confidentiality, security, and physical safety of patient medical records. Adheres to the facilities clinical guidelines as they relate to this position. Answers the phone in a friendly manner and directs calls for PAT related inquiries as appropriate. Informs patients of information required such as lab work, EKGs, clearances, etc. Assists or directs patients to obtain the required tests. Perform other duties as assigned. Requirements High school diploma or equivalent required. Minimum one year of Medical Assisting experience required. Minimum one year experience in a hospital and/or ambulatory surgical center (ASC) setting. Prior working experience with electronic medical records (EMR) software preferred. Working knowledge of medical terminology. Computer efficiency, and willingness to learn multiple new programs. Ability to effectively communicate with internal and external customers. Ability to follow direction and willingness to be trained and learn. Ability to work with all disciplines in the facility in a professional manner. Person must display good judgement, initiative, and resourcefulness. Occasionally required to lift and carry 10 to 25lbs. Licenses & Certifications Basic Life Support (BLS) CPR Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA) or Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) preferred but not required
