Description Purpose The purpose of this policy is to provide a job description for the Ambulatory Surgery Center’s Pre-Assessment Support Assistant. Scope This policy applies to medical assistants at each USDH affiliated ambulatory surgery center. Reports To Director of Endoscopy Operations Nurse Manager Registered Nurses Job Summary Prepares medical records for procedures including gathering of data, such as office notes, orders, cardiac records, and other testing pertinent to procedure. Review of patient medical records for appropriate scheduling in the ASC setting Upload/scan documents to electronic medical record Schedule and Re-Schedule procedures, as indicated Consults with Chief Anesthesia CRNA, staff, physicians, nurse manager related to patient criteria concerns, as indicated Provide patient education, instructions to patients, as indicated Participates in performance improvement activities within the department. Understands the infection control program, emergency preparedness program, safety program, and quality assurance/risk management program. Participates in the organization, par levels, and maintenance of endoscopy equipment and supplies. Float within the ASC to assist with patient care, as indicated. (ie, clean beds, assist with patient to discharge, etc.) Understands policies, procedures, and standards for the ambulatory surgery center based on current CMS, DOH, and accreditation bodies. Participates in inspections and surveys, as indicated. Participates in continuing education activities required for competency. Maintains professionalism within the center. Maintains confidentiality of patient information. Performs other duties as assigned, within the capacity of individual knowledge and expertise. Physical Demands Moderate periods of sitting, walking, standing, lifting and computer use. Bloodborne Pathogens Classification In accordance with the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) this position is classified as Level 2 related to anticipated exposure to body fluids. Exposure to blood or other body fluids may occur while performing duties associated with minor first aid, assisting in procedure, decontamination of endoscopes/equipment, potential sharps related injuries, or cleanup of body fluids. These tasks should be conducted by trained staff whenever possible. Annual bloodborne pathogens training is required. Hepatitis B vaccination is offered.
