Definition Under general supervision, performs a variety of professional work to assist in the coordination of activities for the Pre-K Program. Promote synergy while providing assistance and support to teachers by acting as a liaison between pre-k office, DHHS, classrooms, and administrators. Duties and Responsibilities • Provides technical assistance with classroom learning environments and curriculum implementation. • Monitors Pre-K classrooms for compliance of NC Pre-K Guidelines and Requirements. • Monitors/Collects Behavior Incident Reports (BIRS) and offers support and recommendations for teachers and families. • Regularly visits all Pre-K classes and provides feedback to the teachers and principal/director regarding curriculum, assessment, and quality practices. • Prepares and participates in the selection of appropriate instructional materials, supplies, and equipment for use in the Pre-K classroom. • Mentors new Pre-K teachers, assisting in the development of lesson plans, providing model lessons, etc. • Knowledge of Early Childhood Environment Rating Scale (ECERS-3). • Assists Pre-K teachers in the implementation of ECERS-3 into the curriculum • Knowledge of North Carolina Child Care licensing requirements. • Assist in the NCPK monitoring process. • Keep informed of new research and trends related to Pre-K and parenting by reading professional materials and attending conferences and/or seminars. • Represents Gaston County Schools in local/state early childhood initiatives. • Assists in the collection and analysis of demographic information for pre-k children. • Is available for home visits to Pre-K families upon request. • Assists in the recruitment of Pre-K teachers and assistants. • Assists in the pre-k registration process. • Address classroom concerns and support as the need arises. • Coordinate and implement staff development for pre-k staff. • Plan and coordinate professional development opportunities for Pre-K personnel. • Support teachers with data regarding curriculum and assessments. • Develops/maintains a Pre-K resource library. • Assists with teacher performance evaluations as requested. • Responsible for other duties as assigned by the Pre-K Director. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities • Knowledge of human growth and development. • Knowledge of developmentally appropriate curriculum. • Experience working with children ages 3 – 5 years. • Ability to establish family/school partnerships and to work collaboratively with families and communities. • Knowledge and skill in creating learning environments appropriate to preschool children. • Knowledge of NC Child Care Licensing requirements, including environmental rating scales. • Experience with assessing and evaluating preschool children, the effectiveness of a preschool program, and the effectiveness of teaching strategies. • Demonstrate an attitude of caring. • Strong commitment toward continuous lifelong study of young children and their learning and development. etc., using prescribed format. Physical Requirements • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools or controls; reach with hands and arms; talk or hear. The employee occasionally is required to sit and stoop, kneel, or crouch. • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. • The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 20 pounds. Must be able to perform light work exerting up to 30 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up 30 pounds of force constantly to move objects. • Must possess the visual acuity to prepare data, work with record processes, and do extensive reading and research. Minimum Education and Experience • BA/BS degree in Early Childhood or related field (MA in Early Childhood Education or Educational Administration preferred). • NC Birth-Kindergarten Licensure/Pre-K License or a willingness to work toward Birth-Kindergarten License while employed. • A minimum of 3 years pre-k teaching experience, preferably in a public school setting.
