KEY REQUIREMENTS

Entry to this course requires:

  • four GCSEs at grade A*-C/ 9-4, must include English language, Mathematics and one Science subject, ideally Biology or Chemistry OR
  • four GCSEs at grade A*-C/ 9-4, must include two Science, Mathematics and English. OR
  • functional skills level 2 in Mathematics and English (2019 and onwards), pharmacy experience and 2 GCSEs A*-C/ 9-4 as above
  • Bradford Science Screening pass is now included in the eligibility criteria
  • Must commit to achieving the BTEC Level 3 Diploma in the Principles and Practice for Pharmacy Technicians within 2 years.

  • Able to communicate well verbally with other healthcare professionals and patients some of whom may have barriers to understanding.

Responsibilities

ABOUT THE ROLE

Are you looking for a career in pharmacy? Want to develop your skills and knowledge?

Then our pre-registration trainee pharmacy technician course based within the Medicines Optimisation Ward Team could be for you.

  • To successfully complete a two years training programme for Pre-registration Trainee Pharmacy Technicians
  • Includes day release to attend college for the BTEC Level 3 Diploma in the Principles and Practice for Pharmacy Technicians
  • In house training provided under supervision

MAIN DUTIES

Ward Based

  • Ensure patients have enough medicines available to avoid missed doses by assessing PODs are suitable for use in the hospital according to standard operating procedures.
  • Contacting relatives or carers with patient consent, to bring in the patient’s PODs into hospital if necessary
  • Screening prescription charts to identify missed doses, new items prescribed and any changes to medicines that might require a supply from pharmacy, alerting the pharmacist or technician as appropriate.
  • Liaising with ward staff to identify any additional stock medicines that they require.

Medicines Supply

  • Dispense medicines for out-patients, in-patients and discharge prescriptions following guidelines, under the supervision of the Pharmacy Technicians.

Training

  • Identify own development and training needs and keep up to date with all national codes of practice, standards and relevant legislation.
  • Attend college, courses and study days to extend knowledge of subjects pertinent to the role.
