We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced midwife to join our team as a Band 7 Preceptorship midwife. The Preceptorship Lead Midwife works as a member of the maternity and neonatal senior leadership team, supporting all activity in ensuring the maternity unit works to support newly qualified midwives transition to post-registration, autonomous practitioner.
You will work as part of the senior midwifery leadership team to understand challenges of staff and implement strategies, seeking opportunities to address these. The role is cross-site, encompassing the footprint of York and Scarborough NHS Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.
The Preceptorship Lead Midwife will work closely with all members of the midwifery workforce, including relevant stakeholders. They will be required to provide advice and support to the wider team; this will include supporting analysis of intelligence and provide innovative suggestions to support the onboarding and professional growth of the midwifery profession. The Preceptorship Lead midwife will be confident to develop and provide support to the facilitation of preceptorship activity with staff across the Trust.

You will be an autonomous practitioner, promoting the best practice and highest standards within maternity services. As a highly motivated individual, with a passion for providing high quality solutions to problem solve, the postholder will have an in-depth understanding of the maternity workforce climate.
Leading by example, you will empower staff in their professional development. As a midwife with an expert knowledge of staffing challenges, you will be responsible for liaising, guiding and advising maternity stakeholders with meeting the requirements within the People’s Promise.
The postholder will provide professional and pastoral advice, guidance, mentorship and coaching support to colleagues. The postholder will also participate in the education and training of the maternity workforce. The successful candidate is expected to be an autonomous practitioner, promoting compassionate leadership and high standards.
You will be actively involved with audit, quality and service improvement.
You will be highly visible, accessible within clinical practice, demonstrating the trust vision and values in all behaviours.
