REQUIRED MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Bachelor’s degree and 5 years of related experience

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Master’s or PhD in Agronomy, Plant Science, Engineering, or a related field.
Experience as an educator and the development and delivery of educational content, such as workshops, webinars, training sessions, and curriculum development.
Experience managing research and development projects, including planning, execution, and delivery within specified timelines and budgets.
Experience with precision agriculture technologies, including automation, data analytics, remote sensing, and AI-driven decision-making. Familiarity with the latest advancements and trends in agricultural technology.

JOB DESCRIPTION:

The Digital Agriculture Innovations Lab ( www.isudigitalag.org ) at Iowa State University (ISU) is seeking a Precision Ag Engineer III to join our dynamic team. This position will be responsible for leading and managing complex, multi-disciplinary projects focused on advancing precision agriculture technologies. This includes overseeing the implementation and evaluation of cutting-edge solutions to enhance agricultural productivity and sustainability. Additionally, you will play a leading role in outreach and extension activities, engaging with stakeholders, farmers, and industry professionals to share knowledge, provide training, and lead outreach programs based on research outcomes. With over 90 patents and licensed technologies, we are at the forefront of agricultural innovation.

Responsibilities
  • Lead and organize outreach programs, workshops, and training sessions to provide education and practical insights into digital agriculture advancements, bridging the gap between research and real-world applications.
  • Engage with farmers, agricultural organizations, and industry professionals to share research outcomes, promote new technologies, and foster strong, long-term relationships for effective adoption of precision agriculture solutions.
  • Coordinate partnerships with STEM education and 4-H initiatives related to precision agriculture.
  • Lead and contribute to multi-disciplinary precision agriculture projects from conception to completion, ensuring the design, implementation, and evaluation of solutions that drive agricultural productivity.
  • Prepare reports, research papers, and presentations to communicate project findings, innovations, and recommendations to stakeholders, internal teams, and the broader agricultural community.
  • Represent the organization at conferences, events, and policy discussions to advocate for precision agriculture advancements.
  • Quantify impact of outreach programs through rigorous methodology and share impacts broadly with internal and external partners.
  • May actively serve as a formal and informal advisor to graduate students.
    This position will be hired as an Engineer III.
    This is an initial three-year term position, with expectation for renewal based on availability of funding.
