JOB TITLE: PRECISION MACHINIST

Location: Newport News, VA
Job Type: Full-Time | First Shift
Pay Rate: $20–$30+/hour (Depending on Experience)

OVERVIEW:

We are seeking an experienced Precision Machinist to join a fast-paced manufacturing team specializing in precision sheet metal fabrication. This role involves operating manual mills, lathes, and a variety of shop equipment to produce accurate parts made from steel, aluminum, and plastics. The ideal candidate thrives in a production environment and demonstrates a strong sense of urgency, accuracy, and quality control.

REQUIRED SKILLS & EXPERIENCE:

  • 3+ years of machining experience
  • Proficiency with manual mills and lathes
  • Strong blueprint and technical drawing interpretation
  • Understanding of intermediate math (geometry, trigonometry)
  • Experience with quality control processes such as First Article and PPAP
  • Effective communication and organizational skills
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. and work in a physically active role
  • Detail-oriented with solid tool management knowledge

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Experience in sheet metal manufacturing
  • CNC machining or G-code programming/editing
  • Familiarity with ISO 9001 standards
  • Supply chain and inventory control experience
  • Process improvement skills
Responsibilities
  • Interpret blueprints, work orders, and GD&T drawings to plan machining work.
  • Set up and operate manual mills and lathes, adjusting tools and attachments as needed.
  • Use equipment such as drill presses, wet saws, belt sanders, and hydraulic presses.
  • Conduct precision measurements using calipers, micrometers, dial indicators, and other tools.
  • Monitor machining operations, troubleshoot issues, and ensure adherence to quality standards.
  • Perform preventive maintenance and coordinate equipment repairs.
  • Manage inventory of materials and tools; anticipate needs and track usage.
