JOB DESCRIPTION

Catholic Charities of Eastern Virginia is searching for a Full-Time Pregnancy and Parenting Support Mentor for our Family Engagement Department to work out of our Norfolk and Newport News offices. The primary purpose of the Pregnancy and Parenting Support Mentor is to provide short term case management; emergency and ongoing support for pregnant women, parents or guardians with the goal to support family stability and opportunities. Services will be based in motivational interviewing, goal setting and education of community services. Additional services will include the distribution of baby layette basics, diapers and other infant-toddler care items, referral to appropriate resources and crisis pregnancy support. Services are provided for families on both the Southside and the Peninsula.
The ideal candidate will be a self-starter, well organized, and possess strong communication and interpersonal skills.

REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor’s degree in social work, human services, education, early childhood education or a related field preferred
  • Experience in outreach work and trauma informed care
  • Must be proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, & Outlook, and general filing and administrative tasks
  • Excellent organizational skills and time management abilities
  • Must be adept in person-centered, strength-based communication, assessments and services
  • Experience working with families with diverse cultural and economic backgrounds
  • Knowledge of motivational interviewing
  • Evening and weekend hours occasionally needed
  • Bilingual candidates a plus!
Responsibilities

· Maintain client files and data collection
· Provide on-going contact and goal-planning with clients
· Meet with clients in person at our Norfolk and Newport News offices.
· Be familiar with community support agencies and organizations and adept at locating services as needed
· Promote the program to local faith communities and other organizations
· Assist in the identification and recruitment of clients
· Participate fully as a member with Family Engagement team.
· Responsible for maintaining Care Center Supplies.
· Maintain knowledge of current parenting practices and challenges
· Other duties as assigned by supervisor
