Description (PRN) As Need Responsible for the management of all nursing care rendered pre and post operatively. He/she is capable of making intelligent, independent decisions in all aspects of preoperative nursing and has a working knowledge of surgical procedures and an equal knowledge of the technical equipment utilized for monitoring delivery of care. Functions of the Position: not an exhaustive list: 1. Provide optimal patient care in the pre and post operative phase of anesthesia and surgery 2. Notifies physician and anesthetist of any adverse alteration in patient’s physical status and initiates emergency measures 3. Notifies Diagnostic Imaging, Laboratory, Cardiopulmonary, or Pharmacy of physicians’ requests regarding immediate pre and post-operative needs 4. Restocks supplies, at the end of the day, which have been used during the course of the day 5. Regulates, monitors, maintains, and documents all intravenous fluids that the patient receives in Pre Op/PACU. Maintains accurate records of all vital signs, drains, and special equipment used on patient for recovery Requirements Qualifications 1. Education a. Graduate of an accredited school of nursing b. Certification in Basic Life Support c. Certification in Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) d. Must complete the required education for the Hip & Knee Replacement (HKRPC) as required per policy 2. Licensure/Certification a. Current North Carolina license as a registered nurse 3. Experience a. At least two (2) years of recent pre-op, PACU or critical care experience that has afforded a working experience with the different types of operative procedures and anesthetic agents currently used so as to be prepared to provide optimum care for the patient in the immediate post-operative phase of anesthesia
