NATURE AND SCOPE OF WORK Minuteman High School is looking to hire a Preschool Teacher for our Laboratory Preschool Program. Thecenter operates following Minutemans school calendar (end of Aug-mid June). The teacher will provide a safeand nurturing environment for preschool children that encourages their social, emotional, physical, andintellectual development. The teacher will design and implement developmentally appropriate curriculumaccording to guidelines established by Minuteman High School, EEC standards & regulations and the NationalAssociation for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC).
The teacher will always ensure safety andsupervision of children.Major Responsibilities: Communicate frequently and directly with each child at the childs level in a friendly, calm, soft andcourteous way. Practice positive guidance techniques in guiding childrens behavior. Take every opportunity to extend childrens thinking and actions. Be available and responsive tochildrens needs, questions, and requests.
Encourage and model social behavior and expectations that are developmentally appropriate.Acknowledge feelings with sensitivity and demonstrate appropriate expression of emotions. Foster positive self-concept by supporting individuality, independence, and the ability to make choices. Demonstrate respect for diversity by providing anti-bias, non-sexist language, images, and experiencesthat reflect both the Center and global communities. Plan and implement a daily schedule using the Massachusetts Department of Early Education and CarePreschool Standards and Guidelines that provides a balance of quiet/active, indoor/outdoor andfine/gross motor activities.
Plan and implement child-oriented, culturally responsive and self-initiated activities. Provide multipleoptions for group activity and maintain flexibility in changing planned activities, according to childrensinterests. Create documentation of childrens accomplishments via notes, documentation panels, and/orportfolios. Provide demonstration teaching as a role model for students in the Early Education and Teaching (EET)training program.
Assign appropriate projects to EET students and follow up on implementation. Work collaboratively as a team with CCA, EET and Minuteman staff. Allow EET students who are ready, increased responsibility in planning and implementing projects and circle time activities and provide feedback. Offer EET students input and suggestions for future success.
Acknowledge parents/guardians and all classroom visitors. Respond to parents/guardians comments and concerns with sensitivity, interest, and respect. Maintain confidentiality. Communicate verbally and in writing with parents/guardians daily regarding the development and specific activities of the children in their primary care and facilitate in regular parent/guardian conferences to discuss orientation, transitions, and developmental goals for their child based on appropriate assessment tools (i.e., Developmental Profiles).
