Position Description and Board Expectations: The President and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the YMCA of Silicon Valley reports to the Association Board of Directors and has leadership responsibility for the Association's vision, strategic direction and organizational planning, mission and guiding principles, growth, financial stability, community and philanthropic relations, financial development, staffing and operations. The CEO should be readily capable of becoming a recognized and visible leader in the community, highly knowledgeable about its opportunities, challenges, needs and resources and have (or be able to develop) a broad knowledge of the YMCA locally, nationally and globally. This position requires an inspiring leader who can collaborate effectively with staff, the board, community and local government leaders, members, donors and volunteers. The CEO will be a visionary with a demonstrated history of forming partnerships, creating unity and leading successfully in challenging times. He or she will champion and position the YMCA as a partner, implementing strategies to deliver on our mission with greater impact for our community. This position requires experience leading well-established teams and the skill sets and expertise to successfully navigate a multi-site, multi-program, complex organization through these pandemic-impacted times and beyond. The Board believes its new CEO should be an experienced leader who has the background and qualities that will permit him or her to achieve excellence in the following: Position the Y as a Vital Partner for Community Change: Serve as an ambassador for the mission, purpose, and vision for the YMCA within the community. Possess the ability to develop and cultivate relationships with key stakeholders from diverse backgrounds, while always upholding the highest standards and values of the Y. Ensure your Y is seen as a leading nonprofit committed to strengthening community by connecting all people to their potential, purpose, and each other. Key competencies: Communication & Influence, Engaging Community, Collaboration Improve Operating Performance: Engage the board and appropriate staff to develop an annual tactical plan for identifying and achieving key goals and objectives towards operating with safe, relevant and sustainable practices. Quickly address issues that may arise, forecast future needs, and manage and direct the Y's operations and activities. Identify the need for successful capital fundraising, while taking the organization to a new level of effectiveness and impact in annual giving and endowment. An undergraduate degree from a four-year college or university; related graduate degree 2. Strong preference for ten years prior experience in a senior leadership role with a YMCA or related experience at a comparable, complex organization with direct supervision of multiple levels of staff and employees. 3. Strong financial acumen. Experience successfully managing a multi-site organization. A proven track record of budgetary and fiscal management in excess of $25M or more annually; past success and experience raising significant contributed dollars. 4. Experience and success in cultivating philanthropic support. Accomplished in fundraising, particularly through solicitation of corporate gifts, major private and foundation gifts, government grants, and individual gifts. 5. History of change management leadership. Success in driving innovative solutions. 6. Proven leadership abilities, solid interpersonal skills, the ability to build trust 7. Thought leader with successful results building and executing strategic planning initiatives. 8. Demonstrated success attracting, developing, and retaining superior and diverse talent. 9. Ability to speak any language in addition to English is a plus.   Preferred Criteria for Candidates: 1. Fiscally sound business management approach with a proven track record of budgetary and fiscal management of $40M or more annually. 2. Strategic planning and fundraising experience including annual campaigns and the securing of grants. 3. Proven leadership abilities and demonstrated success developing strong teams and corporate culture with YMCA Organizational Leader Certification (obtain within 5 years).
