Description
We are seeking a Press Operator to join our team in Commack, NY. In this position, the Press Operator is responsible for setting up and operating the printing press to produce labels and related products.   RESPONSIBILITIES: * Reads job orders and loads paper into the press, installs print cylinder on shaft, and installs print cylinder in press * Fills ink pans, screens, and pumps with prescribed inks * Starts press, adjusting speed and alignment of stock to the print cylinder as necessary * Engages print cylinders; adjusts printing impression as necessary, places print cylinders lead-to-lead, and runs down approval strip * Cuts sample of approval strip from printed roll, inspects for imperfections such as print to print out of register, print to die out of register, missing impression, ink starvation or color adjustments, making corrections as necessary * Cleans plates, and prints cylinders, and dies as needed. Performs daily, weekly, and monthly maintenance as required * Mixes inks to produce and maintain desired colors and viscosity * Keeps work areas clean and organized; maintains housekeeping standards QUALIFICATIONS: * High school diploma or equivalent required * Minimum 4 years of flexographic printing press experience is required * KBA sheeted press, 8 color & 9 color experience is required. * Familiarity Experience working with Mark Andy Flexo P5 or P7 required * Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals * Must be able to read and interpret rulers, scales and other measurement devices * Adherent to all safety procedures and guidelines related to operating machinery * Superb attention to detail and product quality * Specific vision abilities required include close vision, color vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus * Regularly exposed to noise, dust, odors and oils * Ability to work efficiently under pressure to meet tight deadlines   Physical Requirements: * Ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment (24-hour turnaround on product) * Aptitude for mechanical operation * Ability to stand and walk for extended periods * Must be able to lift/move up to 50 pounds with or without mechanical assistance * Excellent attendance and punctuality - accurately record work time on a daily basis * Able to operate a computer and time clock machines
