Job Details Job Location: YMCA Family Services - Holtsville, NY 11742 Salary Range: $20.27 - $25.00 Hourly Job Shift: All POSITION SUMMARY: The Prevention Specialist will be responsible for implementing substance abuse prevention services to schools, community settings, and summer camp programs and developing workshops that meet the needs of the particular setting. The services include but are not limited to classroom presentations and presentations for adults on substance abuse issues, and community outreach. Position requires occasional Friday and Saturday night availability. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: • Provide prevention education and training services to schools, parents, community settings, businesses, local government agencies, etc. • Complete and submit monthly statistical reports and data. • Research current trends to create, edit, and maintain manuals and literature. • Plan speaking events on various topics. • Collaborate with community and other agencies to assist in the implementation of prevention programs. • Coordinate schedules with school personnel. • Design workshops on substance abuse issues and other topics for the community. • Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community. Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in education, health, mental health profession or a related field. Knowledge of prevention programs and substance abuse issues. Experience working on the community level. Excellent presentation, facilitation, written, and verbal skills. Ability to plan and execute trainings on various prevention topics. Must be flexible and able to work a varying schedule.
