THE OPPORTUNITY

Aakom-Kiyii Health Services is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Primary Care Paramedic (PCP). The Primary Care Paramedic (PCP) delivers responsive, compassionate, and culturally safe pre-hospital and community-based care for Aakom-Kiyii Health Services (AKHS). Working within the scope of Alberta College of Paramedics guidelines, the PCP provides emergency medical services, health monitoring, and transport assistance. This role includes collaboration with nurses, physicians, and other staff to support patient stabilization, assessment, and continuity of care. The PCP ensures timely documentation, adheres to clinical protocols, and promotes health and safety.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Education:
    o Completion of an accredited Primary Care Paramedic program.
    o Registration with the Alberta College of Paramedics as a Primary Care Paramedic.

o Valid class 4 driver’s license with an abstract indicating no serious traffic safety violations.

  • Knowledge:

o Understanding of emergency medical protocols, basic life support procedures, and patient transport standards.
o Familiarity with provincial EMS regulations, privacy legislation, and documentation practices.
o Knowledge of medical equipment use, infection control, and pre-hospital risk mitigation practices.
Familiarity with Piikani Nation governance, culture, and language is an asset.

Responsibilities
  • Respond to emergency and non-emergency medical calls, providing primary care treatment in accordance with clinical protocols and standing orders.
  • Conduct on-site assessments and deliver basic life support, stabilization, and patient monitoring during transport.
  • Collaborate with nurses, advanced care paramedics, and other care providers to support patients.
  • Monitor clients in the early stages of detoxification and assist in symptom tracking and supportive care
  • Maintain accurate and timely clinical documentation, including patient reports and incident records.
  • Operate and maintain medical equipment in accordance with safety and infection control standards.
  • Participate in regular equipment checks, ambulance readiness, and inventory management for supplies and medications.
  • Provide medical standby and support at community events, clinics, and public health initiatives as assigned.
  • Adhere to confidentiality, privacy legislation, and AKHS policies in all interactions.
  • Participate in ongoing training, certification maintenance, and skill development.
