OVERVIEW

This position is for Thursdays and Fridays only. The Learning Support Assistant plays a crucial role in fostering an inclusive and supportive educational environment for students with diverse learning needs. This position involves working closely with teachers and other educational professionals to assist children, particularly those with autism and other disabilities, in their learning journey. The ideal candidate will possess a passion for education and a commitment to helping all students achieve their full potential.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience working with children, particularly those with disabilities or special educational needs, is highly desirable.
  • Familiarity with teaching methodologies and strategies for supporting students with autism is advantageous.
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, to effectively interact with students, parents, and staff.
  • A background in special education or relevant qualifications in child care or development is preferred.
  • Ability to demonstrate patience, empathy, and understanding when working with children of varying abilities.

Responsibilities
  • Provide one-on-one support to students with autism and other special educational needs during classroom activities.
  • Assist teachers in implementing Individual Education Plans (IEPs) tailored to each student’s requirements.
  • Facilitate communication between students, teachers, and parents to ensure a cohesive learning experience.
  • Support the development of social skills and independence among students through engaging activities.
  • Help manage classroom behaviour and promote a positive learning environment.
  • Assist in the preparation of teaching materials and resources that cater to the diverse needs of students.
  • Participate in training sessions and professional development opportunities to enhance skills related to special education and child development.
