To be successful in this role you will have:

  • A relevant professional qualification and current registration as a mental health professional (e.g. Registered Nurse, Social Worker, Counsellor, Psychologist).
  • Experience in delivering mental health services, ideally within a primary or community care setting.
  • Knowledge of mental health models and evidence-based therapeutic practices, including brief interventions.
  • An understanding of the needs of a diverse tertiary student population, including Māori, Pacific, international, and neurodiverse ākonga.The ability to build trusting relationships and work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team.

Responsibilities

The Primary Mental Health Clinician is based in our Health Services Team | Te Pūkenga, reporting to the Health Services Lead and will be responsible for:

  • Assessing, planning, implementing and evaluating therapeutic interventions in response to mental health needs of ākonga.
  • Providing culturally appropriate and clinically sound brief interventions and therapeutic care.
  • Collaborating with internal and external services to ensure continuity and quality of care.
  • Supporting ākonga to achieve their study goals through early identification of concerns and proactive mental health support.
  • Contributing to the development of mental health initiatives within the wider Student Support ecosystem
