Description

Are you looking for a fulfilling role that allows you to make a meaningful difference in the lives of children with additional needs?
The Supply Room is currently working with a specialist school in Canford Heath, Poole, to recruit a dedicated Teaching Assistant (Behaviour and Mental Health) to support children aged 5 to 12.
Starting in September 2025, this role is ideal for someone with full-time availability, who is passionate about supporting children with learning and behavioural difficulties, and who is seeking long-term development in the education sector.

We are keen to hear from individuals with a background in

  • Childcare (Teaching Assistant, Learning Mentor, SEN)
  • Education (Nursery Assistant, EYFS Practitioner, Childminders, Play Workers)
  • Sports and Outdoor Education (Sports Coaches, Outdoor Activity Leaders, PE Assistants)
  • Health & Social Care (Support Workers, Carers, Mental Health Support Workers)
  • Youth and community work (Youth Worker, Outreach Worker, Family Support Worker)

You must be reliable, resilient, and genuinely enthusiastic about working in a specialist education environment.
This position is particularly suited to those who are committed to supporting children long-term with Autism, Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, and those who may display challenging behaviours.
As a Teaching Assistant in this school, you will play a vital role in the classroom by supporting the class teacher and helping to create a safe, engaging, and supportive learning environment. You’ll work closely with individual pupils and small groups to encourage positive behaviour, support emotional regulation, and assist with academic tasks tailored to each child’s unique learning needs. Your presence will help children feel safe, understood, and empowered to reach their potential.
This position requires a great deal of patience, empathy, and emotional resilience. Understanding how to manage and de-escalate challenging behaviour is crucial, as is being able to build trusting relationships with pupils who may struggle to engage with others. You will need to adapt your communication and support strategies according to each child’s needs, working collaboratively with teaching staff, therapists, and parents to ensure every child receives the individual care and attention they deserve.

Responsibilities
  • Monday & Tuesday: 08:45am – 4:15pm
  • Wednesday & Thursday: 08:45am – 3:30pm
  • Friday: 08:45am – 3:15pm
  • £95.76 - £82.08 per day
An immediate start from 1st September 2025 is preferred so therefore, you must have availability to attend a trial day between June and July with the view of starting in the new academic year. However, if you are unable to attend, trial days will take place in September but, you must have a notice period of 1 week or less to begin as soon as possible.
This is an excellent opportunity to join a dynamic, supportive school community that values dedication and professional growth.
To be considered, we’d love to see your CV so apply today!
