Are you a detail-oriented accounting professional looking to make a meaningful impact? Ameriprise Financial is seeking a Principal Accountant of Financial Reporting to join our dynamic team.
In this role, you’ll be at the forefront of preparing and delivering high-quality disclosures for external reports filed with regulators. You’ll monitor evolving accounting guidance and ensure our reporting stays ahead of the curve—all while maintaining compliance with U.S. GAAP, SEC, insurance statutory, and other regulatory standards.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Accounting or related field
  • 5+ years’ experience in accounting
  • Proven ability to lead through change and handle detailed work in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to problem solve
  • Strategic and independent thinker with the ability to quickly adapt to change
  • Strong oral and written communication skills

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Master’s degree
  • CPA (active or inactive)
  • Experience using Workiva reporting platform, including XBRL tagging
  • Proficiency with Workday General Ledger
  • Ability to navigate U.S. GAAP guidance and SEC regulations and publications

Responsibilities
  • Prepare the Form 10-Q/10-K GAAP financial statements and other regulatory filings, including workpapers, XBRL tagging, and supporting documentation.
  • Review of work paper documentation prepared by financial reporting staff.
  • Ensure that disclosures are in compliance with U.S. GAAP, SEC, or other applicable regulatory requirements.
  • Negotiate with internal business partners to ensure quality and timely information is provided.
  • Monitor changes in accounting guidance and new transactions/events and work with business partners to update disclosures in a timely manner.
  • Communicate disclosure changes to management, including preparation of impact analysis and accounting memos that document issues in a clear and comprehensive manner.
  • Provide qualitative analysis around regulatory, management and/or board reporting.
  • Team with internal and external partners to understand prioritize and review sophisticated analysis, reports and accounting transactions and implement any changes needed.
  • Maintain effective internal controls over financial reporting, preparation of periodic regulatory reports, effective use of our general ledger system, and assistance with ad-hoc projects and implementation of process improvements, as assigned.
  • Complete requests and connect with external auditors and examiners/regulators.
